About Dawgpatch

joan and blackie

When I was 5 years old, my family purchased a beautiful black cocker spaniel. " Blackie" became my best friend and was constantly at my side. We played house, cowboys and Indians, and roamed the pasture and woods behind my house. For 10 wonderful years, she was my constant companion. Since then, there has been at least one cocker in my house for the last 50 years. Nine years ago we became empty nesters with a 12 year old cat named Fluffy and a beautiful little cocker spaniel girl named Daisy. I looked at Daisy and said," How would you like to have a friend?" A week later we were the parents of a gorgeous black and tan boy named Abner. Daisy is retired now and leading a life of leisure as our resident door mat and lap warmer and Abner lives with my daughter and her husband, but following them are the precious pups who keep us busy playing ball and make us smile- Max, Chloe, Maggie, Kinzi, Poppy Blossom, Bella, Toby, Little Louie and Gracie. As our numbers grew, the laundry room became too small so we built the pups their own bedroom with access to outside runs right outside our back door. We call it the Cocker Castle and the dogs seem to love having their own space and being able to choose staying inside where everything is secure, or lounging outside under the pines and dogwoods. I can sit in their room with them and play or read and they take turns coming inside the big house to watch TV with us.

In 2007, I was able to fulfill another childhood dream when I added 2 English Toy Spaniels to our family. I first saw a picture of English Toys in a book at my grandparents' house when I was a little girl and I asked for one for my birthday. At that time, they had to be imported from England, a process that was quite expensive and out of my range. Several years ago, however, I began researching these little creatures and met a wonderful breeder who provided me with my precious Emma and Atticus, and is teaching me everything I need to know in order to produce healthy, high quality pets for those who prefer a less active, more regal pet.

Please feel free to visit our website often as we atempt to provide helpful information about cockers and ET's and to offer babies for adoption from time to time.

Welcome to Dawgpatch!!!

Our breeding philosophy here at Dawgpatch is very simple. We love Spaniels and think they are the best pets you can have. Although our dogs are all AKC registered and most have champion bloodlines, we do not show them, but strive to produce dogs that will be great companions. Therefore, we breed primarily for health and temperament. The dogs spend most of their time with us & our girls are bred no more than once a year and usually not that often. We let our vet make the decision on how ready they are to have pups. Our vet also does all shots, tail dockings, and dew claws and generally sees each pup three times before it leaves us at 8 weeks of age. He makes sure that each pup is as healthy as is possible when it leaves our home. Although this makes raising pups very expensive for us, we feel we owe it to the pups and to the new owners to make sure the pups have had the best care possible. We also try to stay in contact with our puppies' new families and provide as much support as possible throughout the dogs' lives. And if, for any reason, you have to give up a dog purchased from us, we will help you place him in another loving home. We always ask that you contact us before taking the dog to the pound or putting it in a home that you are uneasy about.
